Can A Company Legally Keep My Item And Refuse To Refund My Money Because Of Their Return Policy?
Location: Indiana
I bought an alternator online and even though I bought the corresponding part according to my VIN which says I have a 2016 Kia Soul, it appears that maybe late in that production year they decided to switch to the 2017 alternators because that's the model that's in my car, definitely not the 2016 one which doesn't fit properly in the area it's supposed to go. Anyway, this site has a 30 day return policy so I paid to return the alternator but when I check on the status my return was denied because I tried to install the alternator and these marks were left. I understand if I damaged the item enough to where you can't sell it as new anymore but my complaint is that when I talked to customer support about being out $200 ???????????? the part, because I could still sell the part to someone to recoup my loss even if I can't use it, they told me there's nothing they can do for me. I paid with PayPal and with tracking and their photos showing that they received their product so I can file a dispute through them but I wanted to know if I should even bother. Can they be legally allowed to have both my money and their part back because I agreed to send back the product knowing that my claim might get denied?
