Landlord Told Me To Get My Bathroom Carpet Deep Cleaned After I Informed Them Mushrooms Were Growing From The Carpet. They Ignored My Protests, The Mold Grew, And They Killed It 3mos Later. Now It's Been 6mos With No Bathroom -- Any Recourse?

Location: Salt Lake City, UT. Brief timeline:

June 2025: I noticed a persistent water leak affecting my bathroom carpet and a mushroom growing from it. The downstairs neighbor sends me a video of their bathroom ceiling dumping water. I inform the rental company.

June 2025: Rental company sends plumber. Plumber says the mushroom exists because I don't towel off sufficiently when I shower. He does not investigate plumbing for leak. I'm skeptical, because I cannot imagine even the most freshly showered body drips enough water to create a mushroom. They tell me to deep-clean the carpet and refuse to intervene further.

Sept 2025: Downstairs neighbor has had enough and forces the HOA to initiate repairs. Rental agency sends a restoration team & new plumber, who confirm that the level of moisture is from a leak and not from a wet body exiting the shower. They demolish the wall, and find "3 feet of mold up the wall". They remove my shower and now the bathroom is inaccessible. I am told repairs shouldn't be too long.

Sept 2025-January 2026: I hear nothing, despite asking the rental agency what's going on.

January 2026: A construction company calls me out of the blue and informs me they will be restoring the bathroom. They restore the wall but need to return "the following business day" to complete work on the shower and toilet.

February 2026: I hear nothing.

March 2026: The restoration company reschedules the repairs 3x. I'm still waiting and have no shower.

I'm aware Utah is notoriously pro-landlord. I'm hoping there is some legal recourse to regain some rent money? Everything is documented. Feeling pessimistic, but figured I'd ask.
