Can I Take My Landlord To Court For Telling Us There Was No Bug Problem In Mobile Home When There’s German Roaches And They Refuse To Pay For Pest Control?

Location: Virginia

thanks in advance for reading and responding. i recently moved into a mobile home in a mobile home community in virginia with my girlfriend. we toured the place and liked it, we went back and asked multiple times if there was bugs or roaches, they responded no. they speak very poor english but there daughter came who spoke a little better and assured us there’s no roaches and if there was they would take care of it.

we mentioned the second door which you can see outside when it’s shut so we asked if that would be fixed, along with holes in the wall. the said it would be fixed in a week.

we payed 1400 rent ( already feels like a lot for a 2 bedroom one bath) and 500 deposit. me and my girlfriend start cleaning the place like crazy and we find multiple baby roaches at first. we let the landlord know and they said they’d deal with it… short story.. they didnt. i had to call pest control and pay for them to come out. they came and we immediately found dead roaches everywhere! they were german roaches. we’d find a couple still kicking and recently i found one crawling on the floor,

its been 3 weeks since we first got the place and we’ve moved furniture in thinking the problem would be resolved. my girlfriend has talked to the landlord and they say pest control is to expensive for them to pay and they had already fixed the other issues using our rent for supplies. even thought that is NOT our responsibility. they said they were fixing it not that we’re basically paying for them to fix it. mind you all of our neighbors don’t seem to speak the best english and they don’t keep there yards very clean so… i see where roaches would be able to infest.

today we found black spec droppings all over the baseboards and then a HUGE american roach and it was where i realized this is gonna suck. one every now and then okay that’s normal. but going from german roaches to a HUGE roach just made me want to run out. i doubt they’ll give us our money back and even if they did we’d have no where to go. we spent hundreds of dollars on this place already. i just need some advice so i can sleep in that place without worrying of a roach crawling in my face.

thank you, i tried to keep it as short as possible
