Can Law Enforcement Help Me Pick Up My Vehicle From Repo Lot?

Card image cap

My vehicle was repossessed on 8/28, and on that same day I called my bank and was able to do a wire transfer for everything that I owed. So I paid off my dues and am current on the loan, then the bank takes 2 business days to send the release form to the repo lot. I show up to the lot to redeem my vehicle and they deny me because my loan is in my maiden last name and my new married last name is what my ID says. Obviously super frustrating because I had been without my car for 5 days at that point and paid what I owed immediately.

I call my bank to update my last name on the loan and that takes another 4 days. Now when I’m trying to book the appointment with the lot to, again, pick up my vehicle they keep denying every appointment I request without a reason why. They have the release from my bank and if all of my documents now show my current last name, I’m not sure why I’m unable to pick it up. Isn’t this an illegal hold of my property? I’m now at a week and a half without my car despite being up to date on my loan.

Am I able to call for law enforcement to assist me in getting my vehicle back? The lot has a strict “must book your vehicle redemption appointment with at least 24 hours notice” policy that I’ve been following each time I go to book. Of course no one at my bank has been helpful and the lot has 0 customer service so there’s no one to talk to (and they were all huge assholes there). I’m hoping that police would be able to help me get my vehicle back since I have everything proving that I’m current on the loan and all of my identification is under my new last name. I’m super frustrated that I made the situation “right” immediately and am facing unknown obstacles to get my vehicle back that I really need.
