Can My Spouse Just Leave The House (owned) And Cut Me Off From Accessing Funds (california)?

Location: Fresno, California

8 days ago, my spouse of 22 years just left our owned home (bought during marriage, we live in California) and moved to another location. They opened a separate bank account and receive funds in that account leaving me with only my income to pay half the bills. I do not make enough to pay half the bills- and they know that. They handed me a document and said, "this is what you'll pay- I'm leaving." I later learned that they rented another house with their parents help and they will not tell me where they live.

We have three (barely) adult children, twin 18 year olds and a 20 year old who all live at home and are in college. What rights do I have to access those funds? What can I really do in this situation? The spouse says it's a "trial separation" for six-months. But what can I really do? My spouse makes more than twice what I make and has a 401k and a retirement pension when they retire. I have a 401k as well but I just make a lot less than they do. If they do decide to divorce I don't have enough money for a lawyer. What do I do? Can I force them to pay for my lawyer- should it come to that level?
