Car Crashed Into My House And I'm Unsure How To Make Sure I Get As Much Covered As Possible

Before I post the story, an important and happy caveat: no one was injured, thankfully. 5 minutes earlier and it may have been a different story.

I live alongside a busy road and during morning rush hour a vehicle attempted to make a sharp turn at way too high a speed and crashed into the side of my house, tearing a hole into it and damaging the main supportive wall. The driver was not intoxicated, had a learner's permit at 18, and has insurance. He was fleeing a hit and run further up the road and crashed while trying to escape his pursuer.

My main legal question is if I need to retain a lawyer to make sure that a) my homeowners insurance doesn't attempt to force us to pay damages out of pocket and/or b) the person who collided with my house is held responsible for any costs we incur that he legally can be held responsible for.

This happened almost a month ago, and no repairs have been started. The insurance company already sent a check to cover repairs...but they discouraged us from getting a third party inspector and the inspector they recommended told us he couldn't estimate the costs and would negotiate with insurance as we go? I just don't want to get saddled with tons of debt for something I had no involvement in causing.
