Car Damage After Auto Body Shop Forgot To Latch Down Hood - Now They Are Dragging Their Feet.
Location: Georgia, USA.
I took my truck to get an estimate on some body repair work I needed done. While in the shop I asked that they complete an inspection of the truck for any other issues. The general manager brought my truck down from the lift, drove it out, and I got in and drove away. I was told I would receive a quote for the work later.
As I was driving home, the hood of the truck opened and flew back, slamming into my windshield. Luckily I was able to stop and not hit anything. I called the shop immediately and told the manager what happened. He took responsibility for not checking it was latched down and told me to bring it by the next Monday (this was a Friday evening)
When I brought the truck back the manager offered to replace the hood but wanted tone to pay for part of the windshield repair, which I refused. He then took the truck back and on Wednesday sent me a quote to repair everything wrong on the truck. It was not itemized and was a hefty bill. I am assuming that they alerted trying to cover the hood and windshield repair costs by jacking up the price of the work.
I asked that the quote be itemized so I could choose what I wanted done. I was told it would be sent to me. Called again the next day and nothing. Called again today and news told he was finishing it up and would have it in an hour. No word after that. Every time I talk to the general manager he says “so do you want us to go ahead and repair x,y,and z?” And I just keep asking for a quote on the work because I’m not going to agree to repairs that I don’t know the price of.
Now it’s the weekend again and I still don’t have my vehicle back.
What should I do at this point?
