Hello.

I recently had a Chevy Volt that would not move on its own power. I towed it to my local Chevy dealer and they told me it needed a new battery. I had done my research and told them it would likely need a new BECM (Battery Energy Control Module). I also had Chevrolet have an engineer reach out to them as well. I was told it was the battery and quoted 14k to fix it.

I felt I had no other option than to cut my losses. I was told they would auction off my Volt as a write off and move on. I ended up buying a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The gave me $3,500 for the Volt. I had to put down $2,000 cash to get out of negative equity as well.

Fast forward 1 month and I see my Volt for sale on the lot for $11,000. I obtained a print out from their service department showing that there was never a new battery installed and the work done was listed as “General maintenance”. I felt that if they had properly diagnosed and offered to repair my car I would not have been left trying to find a car to commute in.

I have taken screen shots of everything that I could. I have photos of the codes the car spat out prior to the service. I also have the entire transcript and HX secured by GM when requested by a legal process.

I called the dealership and basically they told me to kick rocks.

Do I have a legitimate case here? I don’t know if they did this to me intentionally or not but it can’t be good business practice.
