Car Rental Company Lost Credit Card Dispute, Now Billing Me Directly
Location: NH, rented a car in FL.
I've rented a car 6 months ago from a well known company, for 7 days. At the end of the rental period I brought the car to their return point in FLL, took a picture, and left it there with the key according to their policy (there was no staff to process the return). The estimated amount was X, but the eventual charge to my credit card was Y, more than double of the original estimate. There was no bill explaining the charge and their representatives on the phone were not very helpful either, so I ended up disputing the (Y-X) amount with my credit card company. That's when they finally provided the reason for charging more: according to car rental I returned the car not in 7 days, but the very next day and in Key West (far from the intended return point). Seemed simple enough: they mixed me up with another customer and added Intercity charge to my account. I explained this to my credit card company and attached the picture of the car returned to FLL and a couple of screenshots from Google Timeline showing that I haven't been anywhere close to Key West on the day of the return or on the day of their claimed return. I've won the dispute 2 months ago.
Today I received a direct bill from said car rental company. They're billing me for the (Y-X) amount that I've disputed. How should I respond to that? And what can I do if they escalate?
