Casenet Says I Was Served But I Wasn’t.

Location: Missouri

I received a letter in the mail a few months back from a lawyer offering to represent me in a case that had been recently filed against me, I checked it out on casenet and a local hospital is suing me over an emergency room bill. I waited and waited to be served, nobody ever came. Checked casenet again, shows they were unsuccessful in serving me and judge warned that failure to serve again would result in dismissal of case.

Checked casenet again & the case was closed, but they had now filed in the county I reside in. First case was filed in the county the hospital was at. They had tried to serve me again and failed to do so. I decided to check again last week and it said successfully served by certified mail, but I was never served. The mail was delivered to my old house I sold in the beginning of 2024, the new owners signed for the mail.

ChatGPT says I should file my own motion to quash service, but I have doubts trusting AI with legal advice. I have considered hiring a lawyer but don’t want to pay more that than the bill. Hospital bill is $6,000. What’s my best option moving forward?
