Getting Sued For An Accident I Didn’t Cause
I was involved in a car pileup last week. I was the last car. The truck in front of me stopped abruptly and I swerved to the next lane over but side swiped him. His vehicle had no damage from me. I took pictures showing no damage from me. He admitted no damage from me to the cops on scene.
On the police report it even says that HE said that the car in front of of him slammed on the brakes, and he hit them.
Now he is suing me for a brand new truck, exceeding my $20,000 liability insurance limits. We have no money for a lawyer. We are paycheck to paycheck and I’m terrified of losing the house over this. I don’t even know how it’s being spun that I’m the one at fault for him totaling his car. It says in the police report that the first and second cars involved were the cause of the pileup, and a witness pulled over and said the same. What do I do? We can’t afford a lawyer and we are low income and we have 2 disabled children who need therapies and there’s no way we will make it if we get sued over this lie.
