Chase Is Trying To Steal $7,000 In Donations.

I need advice and visibility on a situation involving a nonprofit bank account.

I serve as Treasurer for a New Jersey nonprofit that is active and in good standing with the state.

Recently, I opened a nonprofit account with Chase. At the branch, I provided: • My driver's • The nonprofit's EIN letter • Articles of Incorporation • Official New Jersey records showing me as Treasurer • Board authorization documents

After reviewing the documentation, Chase opened the account and accepted approximately $7,000 in donated funds.

Shortly afterward, the account was restricted.

I have spent the last week speaking with multiple Chase representatives and managers. I was initially told there was a review of the money orders that were deposited. Later, I was informed that Chase's internal system cannot verify my relationship to the nonprofit.

I have repeatedly offered to provide the same state records and documentation that were used to open the account. I have been told that no documents can be reviewed and that Chase can only rely on its internal verification system.

The nonprofit is active. I am listed as Treasurer in official New Jersey SOS records. Yet I am being told there is no process to submit additional documentation, no manual review process, and no way to correct the incorrect information Chase is relying on with their internal systems.

Today, a manager informed me there is no way for the organization to have our funds returned, and they will be suspended indefinitely. I have now filed complaints with the CFPB and OCC and have escalated the matter to Chase corporate.

I am sharing this because I genuinely want to understand what recourse exists when a bank refuses to consider official state records and offers no path to resolve a verification issue.

If anyone has experience with nonprofit banking, banking compliance, regulatory complaints, consumer advocacy groups, or media contacts, I would appreciate your guidance.
