Cohabitation Agreement Prices

Hi all I hope this post here is okay
Location: ON Canada

My partner recently purchased a condo and we’ve moved in together at the beginning of August. His lawyers have drafted a cohabitation agreement for us, with the intention of getting engaged near the end of the year and married a year or two from now. We have been together since 2018. He makes close to 100k a year and I’m working part time looking for a full time job so make probably 1/4 or less of his salary currently.

I was referred to a firm and had to pay 400$ for a consult (lawyer was not prepared and I was very unimpressed) and he quoted me 3800$ for a retainer. Which is absolutely insane to me?? I don’t even have that money in my savings which he was able to see through my financial statement.

My question is, what is the going rate for this? Is there anyway I can make this process cheaper for me? I’ve already read through the agreement and everything makes sense to me and I just want to sign and get it over with. I am not made of money lol.

I am very new to all of this and the world of adulting because this is the first I’ve moved out of my parents house so please be kind lol. Sorry if I confused any information

More information:
We both do not hold any debt, student debt or credit card debt, anything like that (outside of his mortgage obviously)
