Colorado Llc Refusing To Pay Agreed Daily Rate For Work Trip To Bali + Alleging Nda Breach
Location: California, USA — other party/company is in Colorado, USA. Work at issue was performed in Bali, Indonesia.
I’m in California and was hired as an independent contractor/assistant for a creator working with a Colorado LLC. Before the Bali trip, I had already performed several paid workdays at $200/day.
I was then flown to Bali for an assistant/content role. Compensation for the Bali assignment was discussed as a daily rate, and I understood the final agreed rate to be $200/day. Unfortunately, the final rate was discussed verbally and the promised independent contractor agreement was never provided.
I worked in Bali for approximately 9 days. I have reconstructed my work using texts, photo/video timestamps, Google Drive records, receipts, flight records, etc. My records show substantially more work-related time than the company later claimed.
After the relationship ended, I invoiced $1,800 (9 days × $200). The company disputed it and said I only performed “2 days and 3 hours” of work and offered $475.
They also alleged that I breached an NDA by disclosing the creator’s private information. I dispute that I breached the NDA, and so far I have not been told specifically what information I supposedly disclosed, to whom, or what conduct constituted the alleged breach.
The NDA contains Colorado governing-law/forum language. I have already sent a formal demand for payment.
My main questions are:
For a daily-rate independent contractor arrangement, how important is reconstructing exact hourly time if the agreement was $200/day rather than hourly?
Should required international travel time be included when documenting the value/time of the work, or should I keep travel separate?
If they allege an NDA breach, can I reasonably request that they identify the specific conduct/disclosure they claim breached it?
Could the Colorado forum clause in the NDA affect an unpaid-compensation claim based on a separate oral agreement?
What type of attorney should I speak with about this—employment, contract/business litigation, or someone licensed in Colorado?
