Company Lied About The Role, Locked Me In A $23,500 Training Repayment Trap, And Is Faking My Identity To Clients. How Do I Escape? (location: Atlanta, Ga)
Location: Atlanta, GA
Hey everyone, looking for advice on a messy situation in Georgia.
I took a consulting job . I was told I’d get trained and placed with their corporate clients.
Turns out, they don't have any clients.
Instead, their entire business model is creating fake LinkedIn profiles, making fake resumes with lied-about experience, and impersonating us to recruiters to land interviews. They expect us to go along with this, lie on interviews, and never mention the real company name.
I refuse to do this. I want out immediately, but I'm worried about two agreements I signed before I realized what was going on. And its killing me I feel like I'm being hold hostage every time I want to quite and be part of this unethical scam company because I will be forced to pay those fees:
- A $23,500 "Training Repayment" Agreement (TRAP): Claims I owe them $23.5k for training/relocation if I leave within 2 years. (The training was just informal internal stuff, no actual certs, and zero relocation costs were paid).
- Employment Agreement: Standard at-will contract, but mentions a $20k penalty for "breach of contract."
I haven't been placed on any project or job yet
I just want to walk away from this whole scam without getting sued, forced to pay or tarnish my name if I leave.
Any advice on how to handle this safely would be hugely appreciated!
