Creditors Still Claim Valid Debt

Card image cap

Location: Baltimore, MD

My, 28F, mother, 48F, opened and ran up several credit cards in my grandfather's, 78M, name. On April 5th, 2025 (last year), I helped him call all of the creditors to dispute the debts as fraud. I know it was my mother because while the creditors couldn't give me any of the info on file they could confirm if I gave them a phone number and email. Hers. Well, over half have come off but the ones still on his credit report claim the debts still belong to him. We did the dispute process all over again last week and I'm re-preparing the documentation to submit to them again.

Part of the issue is my mother lives with my grandfather so the products ordered and mail went to HIS home address. She doesn't work so she's been intercepting the mail. I did set him up with a PO Box once I figured out what had happened. We did file a police report and identity theft report last year but haven't received any updates. Currently trying to request an update so I can submit THAT to the creditors but I'm curious what other steps that I can take. We are in the process of redoing his will and he wants me to be his personal representative so I'd like to not have this hanging around any further.

Any help and advice on who to contact/what to be doing now is going to be GREATLY appreciated.
