Criminal Charges Held Without Representation.
Location: Oklahoma, USA
My unemployed brother lives in Oklahoma and has no friends or family local to support him. He was recently arrested and has been in custody for four weeks. He has been moved from one facility to another due to overcrowding.
I barely make it paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford to travel to him or pay for a lawyer for him.
In this time he has submitted two paupers affidavits and so far still has not been assigned counsel. When I call the public defenders office, and county courthouse clerk they have no record of his affidavit.
I called the judge assigned his case and they do not answer and in their answering message say they do not check their voicemail.
I am attempting sending them emails and emailing the state ACLU next. I am not optimistic about the effectiveness of this course of action. The only person who is able to actually go in person to help him is our elderly father and he has diminished capacity since having suffered a stroke. I need advice on what else I can do from a distance and what my expectations should be.
