Customer Called My Workplace Making Disturbing Sexual Comments And Threats — Does This Qualify As Harassment?

Card image cap

I work at a call center and recently received a disturbing phone call from a man. During the call, he said he hoped I would get into a car accident with my child’s seat unbuckled, and that he wanted a picture of me in the accident so he could “jack off” to it. I immediately hung up.

After that, he repeatedly called back, calling me a “whore” and a “cunt.” Using the phone number, I realized he had previously been a customer of our company. I was also able to identify him online and discovered he’s a somewhat connected film director with around 40k followers and photos with well-known people.

I reported everything to HR, and they told me they believe it falls under harassment and are looking into it further. The calls were genuinely disturbing and upsetting.

My question is: from a legal standpoint, what kind of consequences or backlash could someone face for behavior like this? Would this potentially qualify as criminal harassment, threats, or something else?
