Dealership Bricked My Car

Hello, I live in missouri and recently purchased a nissan leaf from a carmax in Kansas. I took the car to a dealership where I live to get some software updates and a missouri inspection. They were taking too long so me and my wife went to go get lunch. After eating we called to ask if they had started on our vehicle yet, they had not. We asked to not put it in the bay so we could reschedule to avoid spending 8 hours at the dealership. Upon arriving back from the restaurant we find that they had started working on it anyway. After another hour they tell us that the car needs a new battery and it won't go over 20mph.

A few days later we get a call from nissan saying that they arent going to find a battery for it and they want to buy out our loan.

1.we are extremely poor. Just barely not homeless.

This was our only car.

3.we put down a thousand to get approved for the loan.

Should we get a lawyer? That thousand took months for us to save up.

We have a rental car but we dont know how long they will let us keep it.
