Dealership Sold Us A Car With No Title

Card image cap

Location: Oklahoma/Texas

Hi all! I posted something about this a month ago or so, yall had some great suggestions, so thank you for that.

UPDATE TIME!

My in laws gifted my wife and I a truck and offered to pay it off for us at our wedding. It is now payed off and the dealership has not sent a title and is claiming it is lost. They have said WE have to go to the OK DMV to file for a lost title, we live in Texas, so it’s a bit inconvenient to have to drive there for a title.

Fast forward to present day(a week ago), my in laws had a funeral in OK, so they took the time to file for a lost title, handed off the check for a bonded title, the check cleared a couple of days later, and then radio silence for a week. This past Saturday, my In Laws received a letter from OK DMV stating there is absolutely no record of a title for the car the dealership sold to us.

We are quite a bit pissed, as my wife and are trying to get a family friendly car, and would need to sell this truck to afford that. And now we cannot, because the dealership NEVER had a title in the first place. My father in law isn’t stupid either, if they had told him there was no title, or a title would be coming soon, he would have ran from that deal.

What kind of action can we take against this dealership for not fulfilling their obligations as a lean holder and seller? They were happy to take my in law’s money for 5 years, but when it came down to signing to title over, we have to do the leg work?
