Do I Have To Provide A Detective A Written Statement
LOCATION: New York
I was at home when I saw 3 dudes pull up in a car and light my neighbors shed on fire. I called 911 immediately as it was in flames right near my house. I caught them speeding off on camera. The day of the crime/investigation I spoke to an officer about what I saw, then another detective that came to my door. Then a detective requested the video, which I sent. I have a lot going on in my life - middle of moving - but now the detectives keep contacting me. They got my number at the scene. They have texted, called, and now just today came to my door saying they need a written statement. I'm not interested in providing a written statement as I dont want to be called in to a trial and have already shared the limited information I have, I also generally dislike talking to police or any sort of law enforcement for personal reasons. I'm not interested in providing any further assistance besides what I have already. Is there any consequence to telling them that? I want them to stop contacting me and not come to my house any more, its stressing me out.
