Door Touched Another Car, Accused Of Damage But There Wasn’t Any

Location: Utah

I was getting out of my car and the the lady next to me opened her door and hit me. She then stood in front of my rear passenger door so I could not open it to get my toddler son out. When I was finally able to get him out I had to reach over his seat to grab his shoes and my butt bumped my door, which then bumped her car.

She immediately started accusing me of intentionally scratching her car, and my adrenaline was high from being hit by her moments before so I just ignored her. I continued to ignore her as I got the stroller from my trunk. She took pictures of my car, my son and I and my license plate then left.

She came back after a few minutes (this was an outdoor event and I was still getting my kids bundled up and standing behind my car) and started at me again, so I told her to go away and leave me alone. She kept talking and I eventually raised my voice and told her to leave me alone, then continued to finish with my kids. She finally left after she said she had my plate number and would sue me.

After she left again I took pictures of the car and the alleged damage. There is a dent in her door but not where my door would have made contact- that dent was several inches away. I asked a security officer to allow me to move my car and explained what happened but I did not get a report from them at all because there was no damage.

Am I responsible for something? Do I need to warn my insurance?
