Elderly Woman Hit My Car And Will Not Provide Insurance Information

Location: Los Angeles USA

Last week while I was driving on the freeway an elderly woman scraped the front of my car while trying to cross a few lanes to make an exit. She is at fault and immediately accepted the fault. I got her plates, address, photos of the damage, and a photo of her license but she refused to give insurance info because she “wants me to get an estimate first”. The damage is not extreme (I’m still driving my car to work) but after taking it for 2 estimates it’s about 5k of damage since I need a new bumper and headlight (interior part is cracked). She has insisted on meeting me tomorrow at the auto shop so that they can explain the damage to her. At this point it’s a bit of a nuisance for me but she is adamant on understanding the cost before she decides on cash vs insurance.

My car is a lease and I only have a year left so I only care about this situation not giving me any issues when I return it next year. I’m OK with her paying out of pocket but want to make sure she’s on the hook for the finances at the auto shop. Any advice is appreciated.

She says she has insurance but it’s “her husband’s policy”. She is 82 years old. Shes been responsive and nice so far but the whole situation has been stressful for me since I didn’t do anything wrong. I know I can report to my insurance and have them track her down but I don’t want to create a hostile situation.
