Employer Docked My Pay After I Refused To Sign A Form I Never Saw Before

Card image cap

So this happened last week and Im still confused about whether this was even legal. I work at a small retail shop in Ohio, been there about 8 months. My boss handed me a paper during my shift and told me to sign it right away because she needed it for payroll. I asked what it was and she said something about updated policies but I couldnt really read it properly because the shop was busy and she was standing there waiting.

I told her I wanted to take it home and read it first before signing anything. She got annoyed and said if I dont sign it she cant process my paycheck correctly. I still refused because the document looked like it had clauses about tips and break times, and I wanted to actually understand what I was agreeing to.

When I got my paycheck this week it was short by almost 6 hours. I asked her about it and she said those hours were from a day I left early without permission, but I never left early that day. I worked my full shift. She just kind of shrugged and said the system logged it that way. Now Im wondering if this is retaliation for not signing that form or if she can actually just decide my hours were different than what I worked.

I dont have a copy of the form anymore because she took it back when I wouldnt sign. I do have my own notes about my schedule and when I clocked in and out, but theyre just written down, not official.

location: Ohio

Can an employer reduce your pay like this if you refuse to sign something, or is there something I can actually do about the missing wages?
