Who Owns The Passport?
My neighbor's daughter is 17yrs and wants to travel to Paris next summer, she'll be 18 in February but hasn't graduated highschool yet. The daughter wants to start making plans and reservation (expecting her parents to pay). Her grades have been spotty, her parents want her to get at least all Bs before they agree to let her go, pay for anything or even let her have control of her passport {that she's had since she was 16}. The daughter argues that she'll be 18 yr old so she won't need their permission to travel and the passport belongs to her because it has all her information. Do parents have to give her passport at 18yrs, which they paid & obtained for her for a previous trip. Location: (Texas, USA)
Before people start commenting why am I getting involved, I'm a divorced parent but my kids are about the same age and my ex is claiming their passport are theirs automatically when they turn 18 because it's government issued like their SS card.
