Ex Girlfriend Attempts To Place Emergency Order Of Protection Against Me And She Drops The Case On The First Hearing.
Location: Illinois.
Hello. My ex girlfriend of 7 months (no kids. Never lived together) made an attempt to place an emergency order of protection against me on grounds that made it seem like she is being financially malicious.
Long story short, my ex and I dated for 7 months and I broke up with her because I found out she cheated on me. She tried to get back together with me but simply I did not want to because I don’t think our relationship is able to be fixed. We agreed to go on a trip with friends out of the country which I did not get a cancellation coverage for because we planned on staying together. Well comes down to the trip, I got served papers the day I was leaving to my trip. I got served a summons to have the judge hear me out and which when I showed up with a lawyer, my ex simply dismissed the case immediately.
I want to have her pay my retainer as I believe it was maliciously done to either ruin my trip, have me pay for a lawyer so I wouldn’t be able to afford to go last minute, or to have me pay her in general for the trip she paid for but didn’t get to go because we broke up. She stated in the OP that I am withholding money from her for the trip. What legal grounds do I have to meet to build my case to have her pay for my lawyer fees? I only paid a little over 1,000 dollars. I know it’s not a lot, I just want to hold her accountable for her actions pretty much because yes this did cause me unnecessary stress.
