Ex Is Threatening To Take Me To Court Over Items Pawned In His Name Because I Had Previously Stated In Text Messages I Would Help And Send Him Money For Them, But Have Since Stopped.

Prior to our breakup, my ex pawned some of his belongings and some of my belongings to pay bills. The pawns in question, including the pawns with just my own personal belongings, are all under his name only. I legally couldn't take them out of pawn if I wanted to because I have no connection to these pawns whatsoever.

I had previously told him via text messages that I would send him money for them. And I did a couple of times. It was only enough to keep them from defaulting because I was the only one paying anything toward them. He was not putting anything of his own toward them.

Eventually, I told him that I don't care about what's mine in pawn, and he was on his own to get them out. I couldn't afford to give him any more money.

It's roughly $400 total to get the three pawns out. (One of them being ONLY my belongings. The other two are only his belongings.)

Now he's threatening to take me to court to force me to pay to get the pawns out because I said in text messages that I would help him.

Does he even have a case? My guess is no considering the pawns are all in his name and none of my belongings are mixed in with his own personal pawns. But I want to be absolutely sure.
