Ex Trying To Sue Me

Posting simply because I need to get a little advice on what steps to take and not to take.

My girlfriend and I were together for 6 years, and got two cats 3 years into the relationship. We always agreed that if we break up, whoever is at fault for the breakup, they default on not having access to the cats. We said if it’s mutual, we will discuss then. Looking back now, I know this agreement was not logical, but we also did not have it in writing.

Well the worst happened. She cheated on me, and then threatened to take just one of the cats. I found messages of her planning to take the ONE cat while I was gone the next day, so I packed them up as fast as I could and got out of there.

My now ex is threatening to take me to court and take one of the cats. I don’t think this will work for considering all of their vet paperwork is in my name and I don’t believe a judge would want to separate the babies. Also, both microchips are registered in my name. Now, we did share a lot of pet expenses. However, we always used my card and when it came to certain vet bills, she would pay me overtime since she couldn’t afford a lot. So i’m not sure how that would go.

I’ll also mention that the ONE cat she wants to take so bad has asthma. She has never booked a vet appointment for either of them, does not even know where to order his inhaler from, prescription and everything is in my name.
