Father In Care Facility/hospice.

Location: Iowa, United States
Need legal advice.

My father will be 90 in a few months. He has been married to my stepmother for 30 years. She is cordial to our family, but we’re not close if that makes sense. In the past few years, my dad has slowed down, and had some health issues. He has been on oxygen full-time for the past four or five months for a lung condition. Two weeks ago, my stepmom took him to a care facility and dropped him off. She then called my dad’s sister and told her that he was there and that she couldn’t handle him anymore and he couldn’t be home. Stepmom told my aunt that the low-grade place she dropped him off at is all they can afford, and it won’t matter cause he will be gone in two weeks. She keeps saying she took him to hospice and he won’t be around, but it’s a care facility for rehab rehabilitation and after two weeks, they reassess his health and where to go from there. Stepmom has not been up to see him since she dropped him off, and has not called my sister or I about anything. My father is 100% mental capable and still very sharp. He told me he had around half million in his retirement fund, and stepmom had the same amount in hers roughly. So I do not understand why she would say he does not have enough money to be in a decent facility. Stepmom is not well herself. She is in her late 80s and loses her trainer thought during conversations quite often. She has been doing things the past year, that have seemed a little suspicious to me, like buying a new house for herself, a new car when she can barely see. They own a farmhouse that they live in in 30 acres, a lake house, and several small lots by the lake house. My sister and I think that she has been moving money around for the past year or two and putting things in her kids names so my dad side of the family cannot get to his money when he passes. stepmom has always showed that she is a selfish person, and it would not surprise me one bit if she had been playing a game for the past few years moving funds around to wear my dad side of the family was left with nothing, and her and her kids would get all the properties, etc.. We have a meeting at the Care facility tomorrow with a caseworker to go over his progress in the next steps. My aunt and I and my sister will be there, my stepmom will also be there and I believe she has flown her son in for it. Just wondering what kind of attorney my sister and I should talk to if need be in sorting out what comes of this meeting and what our stepmom is trying to pull.
