Flooded Bathroom- Lease Assistance
Location: South California
This is my first time solo-renting a studio. The kitchen and bedroom are separated by a few walls. Within the first 2 weeks, the bathroom ceiling flooded due to the upstairs neighbor's shower drain backing up due to his next door neighbor who took a bath, then drained the water, but since there was some hair clogging her pipes, it backed up the drainage.
My landlord and his agent say that since the bathroom is still functional, they will not be making any changes to the pipes, or drywall, or ceiling fan. Furthermore, they told all the tenants to buy a drain stopper to catch hair for the shower/tub, uncomped. The bathroom is consistently smelling like a sewer/dirty toilet every time I come home. I can only presume it's because the ceiling fan is still dirty due to the leak, and I'm not in a position to reach up and clean it, let alone replace it. I'm already letting it go that a few of my bathroom items were damaged (make-up, dental care), and they gave me $5 for laundry when I asked, but I don't think I want to keep living here if I have to deal with this smelly bathroom that is still prone to leaking if my diagonal neighbor upstairs doesn't want to spend $15 on Amazon.
