Former Homeowners Trespassing After Packages Being Delivered To Our House Seven Years Later!
Location: Alabama
We bought our house in December of 2019. Seven years later, November of 2026, they still have mail and packages sent to our house.
They still live in the area.
For mail, we just write Return to Sender, hasn't lived here in xx years. But we still get the occasional package for them as well. I know, I can't legally just open and keep the stuff. I'd love to know what I'm supposed to do. I am NOT making a special trip to drop it off, i'm not taking time to send it back to UPS/FedEx/etc.
Well, last night, we had yet another package for them, and we just said screw it, we'll leave it on the front porch till we figure out what to do with it. The next morning - it was gone. I go back and look at my security cameras, and they had come onto our property, up to our porch, and grabbed it and took off.
Okay, yes, it belongs to them, technically. But it was sent to our house, and they came on to our property, without permission, and took something off our porch, in the dark of night.
I can contact the guy through the Nextdoor App - we're connected there. I want to tell him that under no circumstance are they to ever come on to our property again and come on our porch, even if they had something sent to the wrong address AGAIN. It's been SEVEN years. Enough is enough.
What are my legal rights? What can I do with packages they have shipped to our house? I don't feel like it's my responsibility to go out of my way to correct a mistake they've been making for SEVEN YEARS. Can I have them trespassed? I know this may sound petty - but having someone come up to your front porch in the dark and take something is sketchy at best.
