Got Served With Court Appearance For Child Support Out Of Nowhere

Card image cap

Location: Wisconsin, I need some advice on legal situation I’m having, so today I got served with papers saying I have to appear in court for some sort of child support thing. I’m the mom and back when I got pregnant I had to apply for Medicaid, thing is that with the paperwork they gave me I had to fill out a paternity acknowledgment thing and I just gave them the fathers name and address and that’s it, it said nothing about child support and all it said was that I needed to acknowledge the “potential father(s)” in order for my case to move forward and for me to get Badger Care. At the time he wasn’t around until maybe during mid pregnancy and then completely dipped the day before I gave birth. About a week ago I got a missed call from the county about my kids name saying something along the lines of his fathers name wasn’t listed on the birth certificate or something along those lines and when I tried to call back multiple times nobody was there. I brush it off and think if they really need me they’ll get back to my voicemails I left them. I have no idea if that has anything to do with my child support court thing but now I’m ordered to go in a few month and I’m so confused and scared. I’ve never been sent to court much less for anything such as child support. I don’t want his father giving me child support money, I personally don’t want anything to do with him after everything he put me through, I’m not greedy for his money as I have enough for me and my one month old baby to live a sustainable life.

How do I prepare myself for all this? I don’t make enough to hire a lawyer how can I go about this? And just because I got served did he possibly get served too? Can this affect my Medicaid? Can I fix this without having to go to court? How do I tell the court I don’t want child support from him at all?

Sorry for all the questions but I’m genuinely confused and scared and could use any advice needed or point at where I could’ve went wrong.
