Grandma Is Getting Deposition Notices But Ignoring Them
Location: California, US.
A few years ago, my grandma was driving and got hit by another driver at a four-stop intersection.
Now, I live in the apartment she once lived in, and she lives in a retirement home. I've recently started receiving deposition subpoenas; from what I can gather with my non-existent legal knowledge, the guy who hit her is being sued by his auto company, and he's choosing to sue her and claiming the accident was her fault.
My grandma's 90 years old, and not in the greatest (but not the worst) shape, so basically she can't be bothered to deal with this. She's been throwing all the letters she's received about this in the trash against my warnings. What will happen if she continues to do this? She owns basically nothing aside from a couple thousand dollars in her bank account and a life insurance policy. Her son pays for her retirement home care. Thanks in advance!
edit: Should have added that she no longer drives or has auto insurance.
