Uncertain Over My Settlement Divorcing A Doctor

Card image cap

I’m getting divorced in Montana. State laws do not guarantee any type of alimony. I married a doctor who makes 406K a year. We got married while he was in med school so I supported him through that and residency. Two years into him being an attending physician, the marriage became irreparable. 8.5 years of marriage total. I am keeping the marital home. He will float my mortgage for one year, pay 2.2k monthly in child support, pay me 2k for my leftover tuition (I’m currently in school), and that’s it. I am required to buy out his equity in 3 years. No spousal support. He thinks that him paying my mortgage for a year is fair alimony. I asked if he would pay for two years and he said no. Am I getting a bad deal? My lawyer previously told me I’d be unlikely to get another penny awarded by the courts, but that was before he reduced the child support from 3k to the current 2.2k. We have two kids. I’m really struggling and being pressured by him to hurry up and file. Is this it for me? Please be nice, divorce is so awful.
