Had A Stray For 6 Months And Now I'm Being Accused Of Stealing It Off A Porch. Should I Be Worried?

a dog showed up at my house all skin and bones, killed and ate my chickens and my cats, my father was going to shoot it, but I talked him out of it and took care of the dog for a few weeks, posted flyers in town looking for his owner, posted in a lost pets group, nothing. I finally found out who the owners are and tried waving them down to talk multiple times because they live up the mountain from me. they always ignore me and drive past me, even when I had the dog next to me on a leash. Well, he got loose while I was out to the store, I posted that he was missing, and they messaged me threatening me for stealing the dog. when he showed up he had the remnants of a tie off on his collar, clearly showed that it was chewed through.
As for why I didn't go to their house, they have no trespassing signs everywhere and this is very rural Georgia. I have had more than one person point a firearm at me for knocking on a door in the hills.
