Help: Uncontested Divorce

Location: Nashville TN

Hi everyone,

My wife and I have been married for 16 years. We have one child and several rental properties. Our goal is to make the divorce as seamless and low-cost as possible. We are both choose to end the marriage without any involvement in an affair. It just Irreconcilable Differences

We found a lawyer together. She initially hired the lawyer, and after we met in person, we want this to be a uncontested divorce. Our plan is to get a lawyer to handle the filing, since we already know what we want for custody and asset division.

The lawyer provided a divorce checklist for us to complete. I filled out the basic information, such as the key issues and differences between us. My wife, however, used the questionnaire to vent about things I did that upset her.

What I’m unsure about:

Will the reason for the divorce be public?

Will the negative statements about me affect me later on?

Should I hire my own lawyer to protect myself?

I don’t want to hire another lawyer, since we’re currently on the same page regarding asset division and child custody. It’s just when there a question “provide the reason for the divorce?” she will provide answer in a way to vent about me. If the reason of the divorce won’t affect me legally, I’m fine with letting her say whatever and proceed with one lawyer representing us both. As on as asset division and child custody remained the same equal as agreed

If anyone can offer guidance on whether the stated reasons in an uncontested divorce can impact me later, or whether I should consider separate representation, I’d appreciate it.

Thank you.
