Higher Tuition Than Expected

Location: NJ/PA

Hello, I am a student from NJ who studied a semester as a non degree student in a PA uni. At said uni, I was registered for 12 course units. Typically, non degree students are only allowed up to 11.5 but in a meeting with my advisor I was told I could take 12 but the price would be slightly increased. At the same time as doing said registration I had the option to take the same courses at another universities for around 10k.

Now the issue begins where I looked at the bill and saw 12k for the term price. I applied for a loan and got it paid. Today, I got a notification saying that I have unpaid bills and after looking I saw an invoice saying that I owe 20k total because the increase to 12 credits made me a full time student. This invoice was after classes began and past the add/drop date. If I saw the 20k bill originally, I would never have chosen this university.

I have the invoice dates showing that I originally saw the 12k price. What options do I have? Should I see a lawyer regarding this, considering its an 8k difference?
