How Long Does It Normally Take For A Lawyer To Respond To A Lawsuit On Your Behalf?
Location: Texas.
I was served a lawsuit earlier this month and got a lawyer a week afterwards. They seemed confident on taking on the case and assured me they’d take care of it. I’ve been keeping an eye on the case through the reSearch case finder tool, but I haven’t seen any updates. The end of my 20 days to respond to the lawsuit is starting to draw near and I’m getting very anxious as I do not want this to result in a default judgement against me.
Do lawyers usually wait until the last day to deliver a response letter or something? I’ve called their office but my lawyer usually isn’t there and the clerk is only willing to take messages for me. I’ve done my research on this lawyer and all of their credentials seem right and they’re well reviewed, so I don’t think I’m getting scammed. I’ve paid the retainer fee in full and signed all the documents. If there’s anything I’m missing or misunderstanding about this process, please let me know.
