How To Evict Someone Who Isn’t On Lease?
LOCATION: North Carolina
I have an issue with a “roommate” that is no longer on the current lease. My boyfriend and I resigned the current lease for our home and our past roommate did not resign.
Yet he his still in the home, and has belongings littering the yard. (Multiple vehicles that do not run, and various other items)
We reached out to our leasing office for advice on what to do to get him out of the home since he is not a current resident on our current lease and they told us to contact law enforcement.
Is this truly our next step? Should the leasing office have any involvement?
We are originally from Georgia(the state) and aren’t familiar with tenant laws for NC.
This “roommate” has made some partial financial payments to us but he has not paid for a third of rent/utilities as he would if he were still on the lease.
We don’t want to call an officer out and escalate the situation unless that is last resort.
