I And Several Other Employees Earned A Bonus At Work. Employer Isn't Paying, Refuses To Tell Us Anything.

Location: Virginia. We are hourly workers covered by FLSA. This is a union job, but our rep told us these bonuses are not part of the contract, therefore there's no contract violation they can file a grievance for.

December last year there was a major project that needed to be done. The team that was selected to do the job attended a briefing explaining the job,.and was told that if the job was completed before holiday break with 3 or errors requiring rework, everyone on the team would receive a $3,000 bonus. This was stated as fact, not a possibility, not a maybe.

We finished the work on time, and after the final inspection was satisfactory, only one repair was needed, meaning we met the criteria for getting the bonus.

A month later we asked at a meeting when we were getting the bonus and we were told there was a delay because the person who gives final approval retired while it was still in process and hadn't passed the task on to someone else. Two more months have passed, our immediate supervisors have no idea what's going on, and their bosses have nothing to say on the matter. We have no idea if the employer has any intention of even paying. No one in management will talk.

Are there any legal options to try to force payment? Normally labor-management disputes go through the union, but this particular matter the union can't or won't get involved in.
