In Home Daycare Refusing Refund

Card image cap

Location: Texas

Both my children were enrolled in a licensed in home daycare in Texas. It was licensed and inspected by a government agency. Money for the week was due the Friday before the week of care. I get paid once a month so I chose to pay a month at a time. On a Thursday evening I paid the owner/ daycare teacher the $1080 via cashapp it would be to care for my kids for 4 weeks. The following Monday morning the teacher sends all the parents a message that her niece was going to watch the kids that day because she didn’t feel good. An hour later her niece sends a message that she put the teacher in an ambulance and wasn’t going to operate the daycare that day. Then that evening the niece sends a message closing the daycare for the week. Then on Thursday the niece sends another message closing the daycare for good. The daycare owner ends up passing away. I asked for a refund but was told by the niece that the family is not responsible for her debts and they would be keeping my money. I initiated a refund request on Cash App but nothing can be done through them since the owner of the account must agree to the refund. What can be done?
