Is A Text Message Enough Evidence To File Some Kind Of A Report Against My (ex) Abuser?

I don’t know the legal system that well, but i do know the chances of me getting any sort of justice is a long shot, but I can’t help but wonder if a text message my abuser sent me last year apologizing and admitting to the abuse she put me through could be enough to at least get a restraining order or something against her?

I don’t know what I can actually realistically do, Google won’t really tell me if it’s even possible to charge an adult for something that happened when they were a minor, but I just want it documented somewhere that I allege that she committed these crimes against me. We were both 17 when the abuse mainly occurred, but at the time I was far too scared of her to speak up about it. We’re both 20 now, and although I haven’t seen her in almost three years, she sent me an apology explicitly apologizing and naming specific instances of abuse last year, and that has been eating away at me. The text message is really the only evidence I have of the abuse besides some old dms on Instagram and a few journal entries from that time, which I doubt would be admissible as evidence anyways.

I don’t know where to even start with all of this, everything I’ve read online says to start by meeting with a lawyer, but I know most them charge for initial consultations and I don’t want to go pay for and meet with one just to end up being told that it’s a waste of time. If you happen to be a lawyer in Canada reading this, please let me know if I have any options, or if I need to give up hope getting justice. Thank you for reading!!!

TLDR: my ex GF sent me a text apologizing for abusing me when we were both 17. Is it possible to take legal action against her now that we’re both adults?
