Is A Working Shower/tub Legally Required In Ct?
Location: Connecticut
We rent half of a duplex. I noticed that the cabinet over the fridge in the kitchen was wet.
We called the landlord and found out the tub has been leaking inside the wall.
It’s mold inside the kitchen ceiling, bathroom floor, walls, and all around the tub.
The landlords response “well we usually don’t fix things like this with tenants in the house so we can leave it like this.” Then she asked if we wanted to move.
I said “well we aren’t moving and it needs to be fixed. We can’t leave it like this until the tub falls through the ceiling.”
The landlord was like “ok but you’ll be without a bathroom for a week or two”
I asked what we are supposed to do about showers and baths and the landlord just shrugged her shoulders and said we have a half bath so toilet/sink won’t be an issue. Just no showers or baths.
There are 5 of us in the house. Myself(40yr), 2 kids(11yr and 17yr), my brother(43yr), and my mother(69yr)
Does the landlord have to pay for a hotel room or accommodate us somehow for the major inconvenience for not being able to shower for a week or 2 while they redo the whole bathroom?
