Is It Legal For A Company To Give Out Your Social Security Number To Other Employers For Tax Purposes?
Location: South Carolina
I was working for a company as a bouncer and then began to work for another company as a “construction manager”. The bar I worked at was W-2 and the construction company was under the table which I was fine with because it was here and there work but after the first month it became very consistent. Tax season came around and the owner of the construction company and partner in the bar(fake name Bob) decided that his taxes were too high and so he decided to 1099 me and the other employees. I no longer work for the construction company so in my case Bob asked the Bar that I work at for my social security number. Bob the owner of the construction company was a partner owner of the bar but they are under 2 different LLCs. The bar HR person gave Bob my social security number without my consent. For context of his character he employs illegal immigrants and treats them like slaves and does not understand basic human rights. Looking for advice thanks
Also tax wise I know that I can file an SS8 form and covert myself to a W-2 from 1099 employee just want to know about the legality of them giving out my social security number (he’s the type of guy to write it on a piece of paper and then lose it a couple times before he can get it to his book keeper)
