Is It Legal For My Employer To Refuse To Pay Me The $3,700 I’m Owed?

Location: Utah. 19 F.

Hi, I work at a private school as an hourly employee. Last year, I submitted my time worked by making a google sheet that tracked the hours and multiplied them by $15, giving the amount I thought I was owed. The financial guy just venmoed me for every paycheck, which I have records of. Problem is, I looked back at my contract and it says I earn $20 per hour, not $15. The financial guy never caught the mistake - I caught it at the end of summer. I kept detailed track of all hours worked, but my employer/administrator is now refusing to pay me the $3,700 i’m owed as “It was a past school year”. Is this legal? How do I go about getting my money without totally ruining my relationship with this person (who I work closely with in many capacities).

Also, we got a new financial guy this year, and when I brought it up with him, he said they would pay me. When he double-checked with an administrator about it, the admin said not to pay me. The financial guy suggests that I talk to the administrator, but I need a game plan because I don’t want to be taken advantage of. Any advice is appreciated.
