Is This A Hipaa Violation?
Location: Illinois, United States
So I (21 F), had a procedure done at my local hospital yesterday. My mother works PRN in this hospital-- this will be important later. In order to get this appointment scheduled, my mom called some contacts she had within the hospital. However, she is not an emergency contact for me and I told her explicitly not to do it, as I wanted to take charge of my own healthcare. She did so anyways. After they called me the day before my procedure, my mom called AGAIN and then the worker told her all the information I'd given her on our prior phone call. I was upset by this but I wasn't going to do anything until I went and had the procedure done and then they centered my mother in my healthcare more than I, the actual patient. It is also of note that my mom is supposed to be restricted from my chart but has still been able to access it within the hospital when she does work. The nurse also blew my vein because the entire time she was trying to put an IV in she was talking to my mother. I just want to know before I complain if this a legitimate HIPAA violation because when I brought it up yesterday I was dismissed again.
