Landlord Sent Lease Renewal, Bans Siberian Husky, But Have Alaskan Husky.

Card image cap

Location: Bloomington, Indiana

I've lived here two years. My dog has been allowed for that time at this property and I've paid pet rent every month.

He is listed by his vet as an alaskan husky, and on his paperwork from the humane society as just "husky dog".

He looks very similar to a siberian, with some deviation. But I can see how someone would mistake the two. He also is very different from what I've heard most siberians are like. He's quiet about 98% of the time, only making noise when in the car driving to the park. He's never been destructive, no history of bites, not an escape artist, very chill etc.

Landlord closes at 5 today, Friday, is not open on weekends, and is requiring I sign the renewal within another 48 hours to "lock in early bird renewal rate" and causing the renewal doc itself to expire in that time, past which it sounds like the base rent goes up.

This lease renewal specifically prohibits two breeds: alaskan mlamute, and siberian husky, by name. There is no mention anywhere of a prohibition of northern breeds in general.

Are we good? I don't have the money to move elsewhere, and I think they know that. This change I imagine is the result of this corporate out of state property management company buying the smaller one that originally managed the place (they apparently kept the same office staff, even). So I would hope this isn't going to be a problem. We've been here two years without issues.
