Legality Of A Police Mandated Conversation With Chris Hansen

I've always been a big fan of Chris Hansen's investigations, I've seen probably every episode.
One thing I noticed with the originals is that they would basically use deception to force the suspects to do the interview, either by letting them believe (without actually ever confirming or denying) that Chris is with the police, or just making ominous statements of "You're going to want to sit down and talk to me before you leave"
With his newer series "Hansen vs Predator" I've noticed that since everyone knows who he is what he does now, and with the popularization of vigilantes also trying to catch predators for views on youtube, many of them will try and run immediately upon seeing Chris or the cameras.
It seems that now the police will physically place the suspect in custody, with handcuffs and everything, then pick them up and place them in front of chris hansen and force them to be there for a recorded interview with a TV show. I've even seen the police take them into an interrogation room while they're booked into jail and force them to have a recorded interview with him.
Is it really legal for the police to coordinate with a private internet show to force people that are in their custody to have a mandatory recorded conversation with Chris Hansen?
