Lied To The Police, Want To Tell The Truth, What Happens Next?
Location: Minnesota
I (19) recently let an unlicensed friend (16/17) drive my car and he hit a parked car, he told me I should take the blame so his chance at getting a license isn’t endangered. I wrote a note saying sorry and left them my number (bumper wasn’t even dented, just barely bumped it.)
Later I was feeling really sick and nervous about the whole situation and I went and took back the note thinking they wouldn’t notice a thing. You don’t have to tell me again that was a really bad decision.
Long story short someone saw and police got called, I almost told them it was my friend but I lied.
Now I have a court date set in a few months, and I want to go tell the police what actually happened.
A big reason I was scared to tell them it was my friend was because I didn’t want him telling other people things about me, but after thinking about it I don’t care about that and I want to tell the truth.
What do you think will happen after this? I’m assuming I’ll get charged with “tampering with evidence” or something similar and also for letting someone without a license drive my car. What else?
