Mechanic Did Faulty Work, Wants To Charge For Repair.
Location: Missouri USA
I brought my car in for lights on dash, they recommended an alternator replacement and a/c compressor replacement. The a/c worked fine and the car had never lost power but we went ahead and did it.
Fast forward two weeks and it gets hot enough to need the a/c and it doesn’t get cold at all, and the same lights for brake and battery start coming on again.
Call the shop up explain what happened they seem apologetic and ask us to bring it back in, we do, and two days later they call us to and quote us $1,000 to replace an alternator connector and do an a/c evac to find the issue with the a/c.
I explain that I already had brought the car in for these same issues and I already paid over 1,000 just a few weeks ago for these repairs and the car was returned to me in worse condition and the issue wasn’t fixed.
They insisted they had done the appropriate testing before giving the car back and that their work didn’t cause these issues so I would have to pay for them to repair them.
We go back and forth and she tries to “make me a deal” and it’s literally the exact same quote. To me it seems pretty simple, a/c worked before your “repair”, and stopped working after, she said they tested the connector that needed replaced last time and it worked fine, you did work, now it does not. Is this not super simple? but they won’t budge, do I have any recourse?
